Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement report they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then found numerous other marked automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis suggest the liquid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; officials are currently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the incident," they stated.
City officials announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the residents for details.
A high-ranking representative said the vandalism made him speechless and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
